Video Cards AGP Video Cards If you have an ALI AMD or VIA chip
based mainboard (ASUS P5A, Shuttle 591, all of Athlon boards, etc.)
Intel 740 and N'Vidia TNT based video cards may not give full performance
without a little bit of tweaking. The card may be limited to a modest
640X480 @ 16 color setting until the appropriate BIOS revision and/or
AGP drivers (drivers for the AGP slot, available fro VIA's Website
or ALI's website, not just the video card's drivers) are installed
PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE VIDEO CARD. Intel 740 based video cards
will not give expected performance on earlier versions of the VIA
Apollo 3 chipset. The NVidia TNT chip based cards (Viper 550, STB
Velocity, for example) may not work on all ALI based mainboards.
We are currently experiencing a problem getting the Diamond Viper
770 (a TNT2 based video card) to work with the Matsonic MS6260S
motherboard. Also keep in mind that there are no chipset patches
for NT and that Microsoft claims that it will not support AGP for
NT 4.0 or prior. Monster, Monster 2, Voodoo and Voodoo2 Video cards
The Monster, Monster 2, Voodoo and Voodoo 2 cards are add on cards
and do not work as stand alone video cards. These cards only perform
3D acceleration and require the presence of a "base" video card
to decode basic 2D functions. In other words, if the Monster card
is the ONLY video accelerator in your machine, you will get NO VIDEO.
If you wish to obtain "Voodoo graphics" (3Dfx graphics) with only
one video card, a card with a 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee or Voodoo 3 chipset
(Creative's Banshee or Diamond's Fusion for example) must be used.
